ST, SC, FC fiber optic connectors are the first types developed by different organizations. Their functions are the same. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
ST and SC fiber connectors are often used in general networks. ST head is fixed over half circle of rotation after insertion, but the disadvantage is easy to break. SC connector is directly inserted, easy to use, the disadvantage is easy to fall out. FC fiber connector is generally used in telecommunications network with a nut screwed to the adapter, the advantage is reliable, dust-proof, but the disadvantage is that the installation time is slightly longer.
The MTRJ optical fiber jumper consists of two high precision plastic-moulded connectors and optical cables. The connector exterior parts are precision plastic parts, including push-pull plug-and-pull clamping mechanism. It is suitable for indoor applications in telecommunication and data network systems.
LC Fiber optic connector is developed by the famous Bell (Bell) Research Institute. It is made of modular jack (RJ) latch mechanism with easy operation. The size of the pin and sleeve used is half of the size used in common SC and FC, and is 1.25mm. This can improve the density of the optical fiber connector in the optical fiber distribution frame. At present, LC type connectors have occupied a dominant position in single-mode SFF, and their applications in multi-mode are also growing rapidly.
The fiber optic cable connector also has other types like D4, DIN, MU, MT. It is also typed by UPC or APC. In recent years, broadcast tv transmission area also has new type of hybrid fiber optic and electronic connector like SMPTE304M connector and LEMO 3K.93C hybrid connector. The SMPTE304M type fiber connector could has fiber optic cable and electronic cable which could let SDI fiber optic transmitter to power remote SDI fiber optic receiver. This connector is very stable for harsh environment.
